eCavity - Dental information

What would we do without our teeth? We would not be able to chew our food, and some words would be very hard to pronounce. Can you imagine trying to say "Sally sells sea shells by the seashore" without teeth? Imagine trying to eat a piece of your favorite meat, using just your gums to chew it up. In order to ensure you will not loose your teeth, certain measures should be taken. The following paragraphs will discuss what you should do to make sure you keep healthy teeth.

One of the most important steps to maintaining healthy teeth is good dental hygiene. Brushing your teeth at least twice a day is very important. This removes the old food and germs that lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Flossing your teeth once a day will also help maintain good dental hygiene and prevent future loss of your teeth. It is also a good practice to use mouth wash to rinse your mouth after you brush and floss your teeth. This will also help kill germs that cause gum disease and bad breath.

Next, in order to make sure you do not loose your teeth to disease or decay, you should visit your dentist at least twice a year for regular cleaning and check-ups. At these visits, your dentist will normally check for:

• Plaque build up
• Early signs of gum disease
• Decay

During these visits, your dentist will also clean your teeth of plaque build up and germs and this will help you maintain good, healthy teeth.

Sometimes we take our teeth for granted, and do not think of the things we could not do without them. Without our teeth, saying certain things would be hard, and eating certain foods would be nearly impossible. How could we bite into a big juicy apple without our teeth? In order to keep healthy teeth, good dental hygiene should be practiced, and you should see your dentist regularly.
